A Popular Higger Tor Walk

After a few weekends without escaping into the Peak, we finally got out again for a short(ish) walk around these eastern edges. Starting in Grindleford we headed off up Padley Gorge - whilst still a little early for it to be as spectacularly autumnal as it can be, there were still a few bits of orange visible.

After coming out of the top of Padley Gorge, we stopped off at the Longshaw Estate cafe for our lunch - which was actually somewhat disappointing. Not a great selection of scones or cakes, which was surprising too considering it was very early afternoon so I had to make do with a sausage sandwich. So on we headed towards Carl Wark...

After Carl Wark, the obvious next stop would be Higger Tor... which is a nice little climb from up from this side (and most sides, for that matter)...

Finally, we headed back down into Hathersage along some very well trodden woodland paths. Upon arriving in Hathersage at about 4pm we were amazed to find how many shops/cafes/tearooms were still open. Nowhere else we ever go is still open on a Sunday afternoon/evening and we felt somewhat annoyed we had wasted our day's eating out at the cafe earlier when we could have had so much choice back down here. But still, overall a very lovely day out - as usual.
