Waist Deep On Higger

A couple of weeks back, on the morning of the thaw after over a fortnight of snow (and after another night of heavy snow) myself and Keri headed out on the early train to Hathersage to climb up to Higger Tor for sunrise. The overnight snow had closed many roads in the area so we knew that for once there would not be many, if any, people up there in comparison to a usual Saturday morning.

As usual, any photos you see here are available as prints on http://www.matrobinsonphoto.co.uk/ either directly or via the 'contact me' form.

We had about 1hr and 20mins to get up there on this occasion - and it was Keri's first walk in the dark - which was quite a task when above a couple of hundred metres the snow was consistently between knee and waist deep. The last few hundred yards were very much a desperate race to get there on time... which included numerous falls face down in the snow over the many hidden rocks... but puffing and panting I just, just made it to the top (leaving Keri to struggle on behind) as the sun appeared through the mist on the horizon. These are some of the photos from that most perfect of mornings.

Some of these shots are amongst my all time favourites - so, as usual, I hope you like them too!
